Steadfast Park, Piha

Stumbling nervously through the forest my eyes scanned the place for what I was really looking for, a faded patch of sunlight was all I saw and nothing else. Soon I could hear the bubbling music of a nearby stream.

When leaving school tears welled up in my eyes and were flowing endlessly. The bus backed away from Saint Pius and to make matters worse I was sitting in the front and I gazed helplessly at my family. I cried for most of the way, although the bus ride to Piha was soothing as I passed unfamiliar places. The bus parked in front of a place which I confirmed was ‘Steadfast Park’, Piha.

The experience was something that I will always remember, spending time with friends and building up relationships and confidence in myself. I know this experience will make me a better Year 8 next year.

Film Festival

Her heart thudded erratically as her pulse raced rapidly, it was suddenly pitch black and the she stared at the hovering logo that loomed over the screen.

The quiet vibration of the seats turning into a sort of bed which made her feel like a princess. The Sylvia Park Extreme screen was where the Tamaki Cluster celebrated their film festival. The screen was so big you could just tip 6 buses till they were standing upright to measure the screen. Exhilaration rippled through Anita as the first movie was projected onto the screen.

As more and more movies came her excitement sharpened then faded as they passed. Room 6’s class presenters stumbled onto the stage as the crowd cheered continuously as they tried to concentrate and be heard through the deafening cheers that their fellow school members were doing. The emotion of nervousness subsided as the crowd quietened. Their confidence rose as they spoke the ending words.

The magnificent celebration ended noisily as all the schools departed from the theatre. St Pius X rode to school remembering what an amazing experience it was to spend the day out with the whole school.

The Liturgy

The noise coming from the laptop sounded like someone was speaking but soon became a buzz as images popped up onto the screen.

The whole of St Pius X gathered in the hall to celebrate All Saints Day
Room 7 led the liturgy showing leadership to the rest of the school.

The mass didn't go as well as they wanted it to go because of technical difficulties.
To start the liturgy we did the sign of the cross as always and sang our school prayer. Rick was nervous as he stumbled on a sentence and went red.

His voice was shaky but he still read on.The celebration continued as more and more people read, the feeling of apology filled the hall as the readers stumbled on their readings.
The liturgy ended awkwardly as we were all eager to leave but the good thing is now we know that saints have an important role in our church.

Past, Present, Future

One of the things I really enjoyed in term three was when everyone got to design an ice-cream in our own little company. We then had to gather our own ingredients and Miss G brought vanilla ice cream for the base. Soon after we made the ice cream we had to serve the ice cream to room 3 to taste test. ‘Rain Forest Drops’ won. Although my group didn't win I still had an exhilarating time making the ice cream and presenting to room3.

During the holidays me and my family went to the beach. On the way we could hear the waves crashing against the rocks leaving a trail of milky white foam and splashing us leaving us saturated with water. Something black patternless and shimmering caught my eye. I went to see what it was and it was a starfish. Soon I picked it up and poked the middle of the starfish with a stick. It’s legs started to move which gave me a humongous fright. I then threw it to my little brother who screamed in terror.

Some of the goals I want to achieve this term is to try and concentrate on my work and try not to distract those around me and try not to get distracted myself. My other goal is to to make it to National Norm in my reading and writing by doing what I am asked.

My Teddy Bear

My Teddy Bear is so soft and fluffy. It is as brown as chocolate and as soft as the white clouds in the clear blue sky. It has been with me since I was young and helped me survive the scary, stormy nights. It was my best friend until I was 5 years old and still is.
It is a good item to have when you need cheering up at home. Its nose is as shiny as a diamond and almost looks like a real bear. Although it looks like a real bear, it’s still warm and cuddly.
My teddy bear is so cute and a great treasure.

Duffy Theatre

Excitement shot through my as if it were a bullet. The words Duffy Theatre made my body tingle with excitement. A group of people called ‘Duffy Theatre’ come every year with a story.

Before they had begun the play they said “it is cool to read”. Each year they brang laughter, happiness and excitement. This year they came on a very sunny and warm Tuesday.

Walking noisily we entered the hall and sat down. A very curious and musical beginning made me want the show to hurry up. The play was like a game show.

The game show was about Duffy looking for an occupation. The show was called Duffy’s Big O.E. (Occupation Exploration) There were characters who explained how the show would work. So they asked a couple volunteers to help them spin the wheel. The volunteers were Fetuli, Mele and Motu. The same routine was used for a different occupation and a different piece of vocabulary was used to describe what the person has to do in that occupation. Some of the words were communication, appreciation and imagination.

I felt sad when the show ended. I had done so much laughing that I was so exhausted I could barely walk home. I went home laughing and grinning to myself which made my friends stare at me.

My Poem Storyboard

This is my storyboard. My storyboard illustrates parts of our poem we were reading called 'The Tummy Beast' written by Roald Dahl. The poem is about a boy and a "Person" inside his tummy. He goes to tell his mum but his mum does not believe him. So he keeps trying to convince her but then when he tries one more time his mum is really angry and sends him to his room. As soon as he's about to go to his room his tummy starts to talk, and after that his mother faints. So now thats the end of the poem.

The Morning Of The First Day Of School

As I stepped onto the field, the morning dew lit the grass as a haze of yellowy sunshine made it glimmer as if it were a diamond. I walked onto the field and as I turned around my footsteps left a trail. Soon I heard faint shouting then it grew louder and louder soon I was starting to get scared, but then I glanced over to the other side of the field and saw to figuers waving at me vigoursly. I took a couple of steps further - not until then did I realise who it was. It was Emelia and Jessica. I sprinted over to them and gave them the biggest hug ever!!! Jessica winced as I squeezed her, she said that I was going to squeeze her to death if I didn't stop.

I entered the classroom seeing two blank faces of some fellow students staring as if I were a complete stranger. I ran to the corridor, hung my bag up and ran outside. As soon as I stepped out the bell shrilled, it gave me a humoungous fright because it was a high pitched shriek. I ran to line up and stood there happily.

The Most Nerve Racking Moment

A kinda sunny day was when jump for heart day started. Room one were the first class to perform. Their item was very entertaining and cute. The song they danced to was 'Kiss Kiss' and the 'Lion Sleeps Tonight'. The classes stepped onto the stage (tennis courts) and walked off. It was as long as I expected. Finally it was our turn to perform. Ba boom, ba boom ba boom, my heart was beating furiously, because I was in the front row!!!! The music started and we danced. we weren't as enthusiastic as the other classes, especially me as I was so shy I felt like I never danced!!! They clapped us off stage and now it was room 7's turn to perform. I couldnt stop smiling and giggling after that performance, it was so funny they danced like little children. The look on their faces said that they were embarresed. They finished their item with a gleefull smile and walked off stage. Now it was time to do the "Jump For Heart" routine together. All the classes approached the stage, some were noisey and some were quiet. We all did the routine beautifully, the teachers faces said it all. After a couple of moves it was over. The day ended well.

Athletics Day

It shrilled loudly, it was a high pitched shriek. We then rushed over to the place where all our house teams were. There was tuis-red geckos -green keas-blue and kiwis-yellow. After the teachers spoke(which felt like an eternity), we marched excitedly to the field where the tarpaulins were all lined up. When I gazed upwards, the sky was a dull grey. It was a very, very gloomy day but fun at the same time. The races started and ended like a gust of wind."All 11 year olds step up'' a voice boomed out of the speaker. I was so nervous I felt like wetting my pants!! I stumbled nervously to the place where all the 11 year olds were. Goosebumps dominated my skin, and a fear of falling filled my mind."On your marks get set go!!" exclaimed Mrs Pole, Nand we were off. I was coming 4th in the race. As I was running I could feel like I was going to loose my sense of balance!!!!........but I didnt. Phewww!! the races all ended as it was lunch time. 45 minutes felt like 10 minutes!! now our last part of athletics, the novelty races. My favourite novelty race was the three legged race it was very entertaining but yet painful. All the novety races ended with laugter and cheer.
The day ended tremendousley. I was so exhausted I could barely walk!! I went home thinking about what an incredable day athletics was.
